Analytics meets aesthetics: My role at Zypp

A personal story about finding purpose at the intersection of data and creativity, and building a role at Zypp that keeps evolving with me.

Hi, I’m Alejandra. I work at Zypp in a role that mixes data analysis, data visualization, and user experience, yeah, a bit of everything (I’ll explain).

I’m writing this because my teammates said it might be helpful for people who are thinking about working with us. So here it is: how I ended up here, how things evolved, and why I still decide to keep showing up every day.

If you’re considering joining Zypp, or if you just like reading career stories, I hope this one keeps you company for 4 minutes (yes, I asked ChatGPT).

Analytics meets aesthetics: My role at Zypp

The question I often get

Whenever I talk to candidates, there’s always that question:

“Why do you work at Zypp?” or “How did you end up there?”

And my answer is always the same:

There’s a reason I joined, and a different reason for why I stayed.

Why I joined

Short version?

It felt like a good match. Erfan and Melvin were open to adding data visualization as a service, and I was super curious to explore that area for my own professional growth.

Slightly longer version?

I’d been around Zypp since the early days, helping out here and there. But I officially joined the BI team in 2022.

At that point, I had a BSc in Economics, a Master’s in Sustainable Development, and six years working as a consultant doing quantitative analysis on environmental sustainability projects.

Sounds great on paper, but something felt off. I wasn’t really excited about the day-to-day anymore. So I paused, and started thinking about what would actually make me want to get out of bed in the morning.

And then… pandemic happened. Like many of you, I started exploring new things: painting with watercolors, baking (yes, sourdough happened), and realizing how much I actually loved creative work. Design, visuals, colors, making things look good, turns out that brings me joy.

So I found myself with two very different interests: data and creativity. That’s when I discovered data visualization, what seemed like a sweet spot right in the middle.

I proposed the idea of developing data visualization as a new focus area at Zypp, and they were genuinely open to exploring it with me.

A few months in, it was clear it was a great fit. I loved the work, they liked the results, and that’s how I properly joined the team.

Why I stayed

The short answer?

Zypp gives me the space and support to grow. And that makes a huge difference.

Longer version?

Before officially joining in 2022, I was helping out with small design tasks, creating LinkedIn posts, making things look pretty. Now, in 2025, I’m responsible for our Business Intelligence solutions. I lead the end-user experience, build front-ends, and train our clients.

I’ve learned so much. Sure, part of that is me being curious and putting in the work, but it’s also about the environment. I don’t think I’d have developed this much somewhere with less freedom or support.

At Zypp, I can say, “Hey, I’m interested in this,” and I feel heard. Even better, my colleagues often encourage me to explore new areas just because they think I’d enjoy it. That’s how I ended up coding front-ends as well. I got the freedom to explore, learned new tools, got good at them, and now I get to teach others.

And I believe it’s not just me, this is how the whole team works. Our field moves fast. Tools change. Needs shift. We try to stay curious, flexible, and ready to adapt. I know that in two years, I probably won’t be using the same stack I’m using now, and I’m not only okay with that but excited about it.

What I love most is that I get to bring all parts of me to our projects: The analytical side, the creative side, the nerdy side, the clear-communication and storytelling side, the strategic thinker side… and even, sometimes, the plant-mom side.

And all of that is seen and appreciated by the team and by our clients. That’s why I stay.

That’s my story

So that’s my story with Zypp. If you’re thinking about applying, here’s what I can say: Zypp is a place where your ideas matter, your growth is real, and your role evolves with you.

And if you’re just here out of curiosity: thanks for reading. You are not your job title. You’re not what you studied. You’re a whole, complex, multi-talented human being. And your path can totally surprise you, in the best way.

If Zypp sounds like your kind of team, we’d love to hear from you.
